Today, at the Nordic Game Conference 2014, we were awarded 500.000 Danish Kroner (67.000 EUR) in development support from the Nordic Game Program for the concept of our new IP ‘Hunger’ (working title).
‘Hunger’ is a third-person 3D action adventure game with stealth and exploration elements. A nine-year old girl named Six is kidnapped from her home and taken to work in The Maw – a surreal underwater resort catering to the whims of the powerful elite. When an unexpected twist of fate offers her a chance at freedom, Six takes a journey through the bizarre and unpredictable world of The Maw, and catches a glimpse at the corrupt heart of modern happiness.
“This is not only a huge vote of confidence from the Nordic Game Program expert group,” says CEO Ola Holmdahl. “The grant enables us to explore an idea we are deeply passionate about. Hunger holds fantastic potential, and our job now is to harness that promise into a great experience.”

We are happy to reveal that one of the biggest level packs yet is coming to LittleBigPlanet 2 this week! Join the Justice League on an epic adventure that will take you all around the world in five exhilarating story levels and two brand new mini-games!
To help you overcome the obstacles awaiting you we’ve added a whole range of new features and abilities to LittleBigPlanet!
The Hero Cape!

With new Wall Jump Material and the Wall Jump Tweaker even steep walls no longer represent insurmountable obstacles!
The Memoriser and more!
We included a whole range of additions and improvements that were previously only available in LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. One of the biggest of these is the Memoriser! The Memoriser allows you store data within a level so player can continue from where they left off, and send data from one level to another enabling you to build epic stories!
The DC Comics Premium Level Pack will also include a whole range of new materials, objects, decorations, and even five new interactive music tracks to create even more astonishing levels with! And of course we also included a number of trophies and pins for all you collectors and trophy hunters out there.

LittleBigPlanet PS Vita has been out for exactly one year now! And what a year it has been!
Making LittleBigPlanet PS Vita was a daunting task, especially so since we built it for a platform that barely existed when we started on the project. But, with the help of Double Eleven and Sony XDev, we managed to overcome all obstacles and delivered a game that we are very proud of!
Since launch LittleBigPlanet PS Vita picked up several awards, like the Game of the Year award from TIGA, and was nominated for several prestigious awards such as a BAFTA for Best Mobile/Handheld Game. The critical reception was simply amazing with many reviewers praising it as “the definitive LittleBigPlanet game”. Today LittleBigPlanet PS Vita is one of the highest rated PS Vita games on Metacritic with a Metascore of 88.
But more importantly you guys seem to enjoy it a lot! Over the past 12 months you have created way more content for your fellow players to enjoy than we ever could! There are now 118,323 levels and on average of 324 levels are added to this number every day.
To celebrate we are giving away 3 voucher codes for the EU version of LittleBigPLanet PS Vita. If you would like to get a one, simply leave a message on our Facebook page or send us a message on Twitter and tell us why you should be chosen!
Make sure you are following our Twitter account, @TarsierStudios, so we can DM you the code.
We will send out to codes tomorrow afternoon!
At the end of last year Sony ran an awesome LittleBigPlanet contest for the chance to win a month-long internship with us here at Tarsier Studios. During his stay we would work with the lucky winner to polish his level into a true community gem and introduce him to the dark secrets of game development!
After playing through hundreds of amazing LittleBigPlanet PS Vita levels created by players from all over Europe the judges decided that Simone’s entry, Flint, was the best. So Sony flew him out to Sweden to join us at the beginning of June.
Over the course of the past four weeks Simone worked closely with our designers and artists. During that time he learned a lot about how we made the story levels in LittleBigPlanet PS Vita and we helped him make his mini-game even better than it already was. We think the end result is a great showcase of what anyone can create with LittleBigPlanet given a bit of time!
It was awesome to have a LittleBigPlanet fan as motivated as Simone in the office for four weeks and to see how quickly he improved upon his level after just a little feedback from us!
Malmö, 2013-06-06. The board of directors at Tarsier Studios, a Swedish game studio best known for internationally acclaimed games LittleBigPlanet PSVita and Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, and their work on LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 has appointed Ola Holmdahl as its new CEO.
“Ola Holmdahl has a long track record in the game industry and brings a wide range of skills within game design, project management and corporate leadership. We believe Ola will be a great help in Tarsier’s continued development”, says Magnus Lindsten, chairman of the board of Tarsier Studios.
Mattias Nygren, the original Chief Executive Officer at Tarsier Studios, will be leaving the company.
“As CEO and executive producer I’ve been responsible for the development of the company as well as product development at two separate offices,” Nygren explains. “The office in Malmö is developing console games and our Karlshamn office provides game art outsourcing services. Due to my great ambitions, I don’t consider it feasible to keep both these studios running under me at the same time. I want to focus on a single studio, and given the fact that my family lives in Karlshamn, that is where I want to work.”
Tarsier Studios has decided to sell off the Karlshamn office to Nygren as a means to achieve its goal of focusing more on original IP development. Nygren will continue to operate the Karlshamn office, but as a new and independent company focusing on contract work within the game industry.
According to Ola Holmdahl himself, “Tarsier Studios is a fantastic company that always delivers quality and creativity in a class of its own. As cofounder, coowner and CEO, Mattias Nygren has faced every challenge along the way to success in an exemplary fashion. As an entrepreneur and business developer, he’s built a unique and successful relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment, where Tarsier’s work on LittleBigPlanet won the company a place among the best game developers in the country. Sony is a fantastic publisher that has worked closely with Tarsier and contributed greatly in refining and developing our products.”
On top of which he states that “now it’s time to lead Tarsier onward, and we look forward to continuing our great relationship with Sony Computer Entertainment. Tarsier Studios is a company that has everything it takes to create a portfolio of fresh games and new IPs. Tarsier needs to be a creative leader, a workplace where the very best creators have an environment where they can work on their dream projects. In the international arena, quality, artistic expression, creativity, and craftsmanship remains the best combination.”

Today we are starting a new article series called Inside Tarsier!
The articles in this series can be anything from illustrations, ideas and random thoughts, to little snippets of writing, videos, and musings on small side-projects that the creative folks here at Tarsier are working on in their spare time.
We start with illustration of a mysterious red-haired lady, drawn by Andreas, who is one of our artists.
You can read more about how he drew it below and he also include a timelapse of the whole image being drawn.
